Taho and Kutsinta for breakfast

I been out of the country for sometime now, and now I am back to have my Christmas vacation. How I have been missing Filipino street foods!. And while doing our morning walk with Malou, the Taho vendor caught my attention.

Taho is a  streetfood that made from soybeans and it is what Filipino's love to eat for breakfast and snacks.

The Taho is mixed with a sweet concoction mixed with Sago. Served in disposable plastic cups and cost about Php 10.00. Aside from the Taho, Kutsinta and Puto (Made from Rice) and is also being sold

Kuntsinta
These food brings back memories, the simple joys of childhood. How I wish we could also bring us back to our youth when we eat it lol!  That's our comfort food right there, sells cheap but tastes great! Buy some when you can.

Balaw Balaw In Angono Rizal

After a long drive from Tanay and nearby town of Rizal. To end the day by having lunch at Balaw Balaw. Learned about this restaurant from Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre Foods
Balaw Balaw ia also an art gallery with the works of the late Perdigon Vocalan. Waiting for my food to be served, I explored and took some shots.

The foods are exotic and not your everday meal

Crispy alagaw leaves

Bulls testicles and penis in adobo

Baked tahong

The food tastes great and serving is generous. Not bad for the price

Pagkain ni Juan (Tuyo) for 75,000 $

                                image from panlasangpinoy.net

Silog, a Filipino favorite

A typical Filipino favorite breakfast consist of combining these three items, 1) Sinangag- Which is the garlic rice 2) Itlog - fried egg  3) Tapa - beef. However as long as you have the sinangag and the egg you will always have SILOG, you can either combine other foods with SILOG. One favorite, is combining it with Hotdog , you have HOTSILOG. Combine it with TAPA, you get TAPSILOG, the variations are endless as long as you have  SILOG. The name TAPSILOG came about in the early 80's from a sitcom and it always have been a comfort food for Filipinos.
This is a typical combination with silog

Longsilog
For me there is this one favorite food joint to get Silog no other than Kitchen King, not the fancy type of restaurant. But it always reminds me of home cooked meals. Owned and manged by a close friend , the place were the ''Barkadas'' meet almost everyday after work and relax.  Do you have a place that you always hangout with friends?
